Resilience by Anonymous

Writer: Tatiana ChanceTatiana Chance

A lotus flower is often seen as a symbol of resilience, rebirth, and transformation, much like a survivor of sexual assault. The lotus grows in muddy, murky waters, yet it rises above the surface to bloom in pristine beauty. Similarly, survivors endure immense pain and trauma but have the strength to heal, grow, and reclaim their lives. Just as the lotus remains unstained despite its difficult environment, survivors, too, can find ways to move forward without being defined by their past experiences. Which is why reproductive justice is important for sexual assault survivors. It means access to emergency contraception, abortion services, and comprehensive healthcare without discrimination or legal obstacles. The journey of the lotus—from darkness to light—mirrors the healing process, where survivors reclaim their power, find their voice, and bloom despite what they've been through.
